In relationships it seems like each person has a go-to pet name for their partner. Some of these I really can't stand, and if I was ever called them I'd have to re-evaluate my feelings. Everyone uses these, even me, though I've always tried to keep mine unique for different girls.
I really dislike "babe" and "baby" which is a problem since they're probably the most common pet names out there. Maybe that's why I don't like them, I find those couples who are always saying "Baby {this}
I have a unique name for Hannah, but outside of that "Honey" or "Hun" are probably my pet names of choice. Even at that I never use pet names as a replacement for their real name, usually it's used in the initial greeting and that's all. Hannah has a semi-unique name she calls me, it's actually kind of ridiculous too, but I think that it's funny so I like it.

Babe doesn't drive me as crazy as baby does. Think about it...baby. BABY?? Really?! It seems really condescending. Babe is also a pig...hasn't everyone seen that movie?
Somehow I've never had pet names in a relationship. Thank goodness...
In French, they use "mon chouette" which basically means "my little cabbage." Legit.
Haha! I've actually heard that one! Hannah would always say "Mon Petit Chouchou."
I agree, baby is the worse of the two.
wellllll...i agree with you. in theory. i totally agree that some pet names or terms of endearment are just horrible. BUT. i prefer baby to babe. mr ex man and i used baby, but just to each other and not in replacement of our actual names. sometimes i called him honey, but NEVER dear. my parents called each other that. yuck. too old. msof was in the military and was stationed in germany-he would call me "schatze" which is roughly the equivalent of sweetheart. by the end of our marriage, we had named the dog schatze and we were calling each other butthead. i know. quite a commentary, eh? one of my favorites was by mr southern gentleman-he would just call me "my love". with that accent...i just melted. the nicknames are a basic way of laying claim on someone. if the guy i was dating only went by his full name ie: michael, i would call him mike. i dated one guy named chris who only allowed his mother to call him christopher. and me :) nicknames are fun,but i agree, they can get out of hand and be ridiculous. i was unaware of the french version you guys mentioned. i like it. :)
